Pest preparation and prevention
Use this page to organize questions before a visit. The provider’s instructions for the actual work take priority over general educational guidance.
Start with evidence and access
Record where activity occurs, when it began and whether it is recurring. Share a safely taken photograph when useful.
Tell the provider about restricted spaces, locked areas and who can authorize access.
Do not dismantle fixtures, climb roofs or enter unsafe spaces to improve the enquiry.
General household service
Ask which rooms, cupboards or exterior areas need access. Mention food-contact surfaces, children, pets, aquariums and sensitive occupants.
Do not move everything before the method and scope are explained. Get a checklist that identifies the items to protect or relocate and any cleaning guidance.
Bed bug preparation
Request written handling and preparation instructions for the selected method. Avoid unplanned movement of suspect belongings into other rooms.
Explain space and mobility constraints before the visit. Ask about furniture, laundry, bagging and follow-up so the plan can be carried out realistically.
Rodent concerns
Describe visible activity and access openings without handling animals or waste. Do not dry-sweep or vacuum rodent contamination; use appropriate cleanup guidance.
Control, exclusion and cleanup have different scopes. Ask which tasks are included and whether another specialist is needed.
Termite inspection
Have prior reports available and photograph accessible evidence before it is disturbed. Explain blocked storage or limited access.
Ask what the inspection can cover and which limitations will be recorded. Treatment, reporting and repair decisions should be clearly separated where their scopes differ.
Outdoor pests and stinging insects
For mosquitoes, describe water-holding items and outdoor areas you control. Explain ponds, plants, pets and other site features.
For stinging insects, keep distance from activity and do not block a nest opening. Ask about identification, access and the actual service available.
Product-specific precautions
Ask which products or methods are proposed, what preparation is required and when the area can be used again.
Re-entry is not governed by one universal time.
Tell the provider about past applications. Do not combine products or repeat them beyond label instructions while waiting for assessment.
Prevention questions for the property
Ask which accessible entry, storage, moisture or maintenance conditions are relevant to the concern. Clarify which actions the provider performs and which belong to the owner.
Keep a simple list and review it alongside activity records. General prevention advice does not replace assessment of a current specialist pest problem.
